In this episode, Adam and Matt discuss Akira Kurosawa's film Yojimbo in relationship with the lectionary texts for this coming Sunday, May 22, 2016: Trinity Sunday, Year C.
What happens when one with no honor tries to do the honorable thing? What can one person do in a town hell bent on destruction? How can our stories be made new in different settings and cultures? This week Matt and Adam tackle the questions of Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, Yojimbo. Adam again falls into the embrace of nihilism as Matt shudders and tells him that God has a plan. Matt then tries to make sense of the ways in which God subverts our narratives of redemptive violence.
Later on, Matt tries to find a sacred balance in a video game and Adam remembers a poor saint with a bird in his hand and eggs in his palm.
So, as you're thinking about Trinity Sunday this upcoming week, let us be the best part of your Sunday morning prep! It's time to find your inner ronin, roll into town and try and make sense of this crazy world. It's time for Technicolor Jesus.
